For the current  nancial year farms will only be assisted with loose equipment such as scales, AI fridge, stock and also waste management systems. SAPPO is approaching di erent stakeholders for  nancial assistance with regard to the expansion of the selected farms and many others.

tion of the training for those who are interested in furthering their studies after completion of the training. The contribution of the academy towards skills transfer plays an important role in shaping up future farmers within the developing sectors.
The academy has been assessed by the Depart- ment of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and is awaiting approval as an accredited service provi- der for AI.
CHALLENGES
Limited number of mentors – for biosecurity rea- sons it has remained a challenge to secure com- mercial farmers who will act as mentors for deve- loping farmers.
Lack of su cient funding required for the expan- sion of smallholder farmer units.
